Kyoto was definitely the city for a huge matcha lover like me, I think I ate more matcha during this 4 days kyoto trip than I had in my entire life! There were matcha ice cream at every temples and we bought and tried so many of Kyoto's famous treats like yastuhashi, mochi, and manju.
The city itself was full of ancient Japan architectures and streets with countless temples and shrines to visit. My personal favourites were the streets of Sannenzaka, Fushimi Inari Taisha and Kamo River. Sannenzaka was a long rock path engulfed in several ancient temples with lots of cute souvenir shops and matcha desserts. Luckily when we went, the streets were not busy. We just slowly walked along the houses and went from stores to stores which was very relaxing and fun.
The hotel we stayed (Grand Bach Hotel) was conveniently close to Nishiki Market and Kamo River. After lunch or dinner, I would just take walks along the Kamo River. I loved t observe the beautiful night lights light up in restaurants and the sunsetting at the edge of the horizon, listening to the sound of river flowing and people's laughter. On a rare occasion, we got to see geisha at one of the restaurants which was very special.
Fushimi Inari Taisha was my absolute favourite spots we visited. The endless torii created the astonishing paths for people to walk through and the sight of it was just unbelievable. We bought a fox mask, which is the messenger of the shrine, made from paper and took a lot of photos with it. The paths started out very crowded but as we walked further and further up the mountain it ended up with less than 10 people.
Unfortunately despite the overwhelmingness of the sight, the pouring rain stopped us from finishing the entire hike. All the photos came out so amazing and I enjoyed every moment at Fushimi Inari Taisha and would love to go back and finish the path.
